Hastings Take Tawakoni
The Northeast Region held it's 4th tournament of the 2008 Tournament Trail Saturday May 17th at a high and muddy Lake Tawakoni.
Dennis Hastings, our Assistant Director and Denton County Bass Club member, brought 4 bass to the scales that weighed 12.22lbs for the tournament win. Dennis' bag included the tournaments 1st place "Big Bass" which weighed 3.84lbs.
In second place was Century Bass Club member Rusty Owens. Rusty's 3 fish weighed in at 8.62lbs. Paul Starnes representing Denton County Bass Club finished in 3rd place with 3 fish that weighed 8.37lbs. Paul's non-boater for the day, Paul Jones, also had 3 fish that weighed 7.90lbs good enough for the 4th spot. Jones, a Century Bass Club member, also had the 2nd place "Big Bass" of the tournament that weighed in at 3.57lbs. Finishing in 5th was Century Bass Clubs Jon Harshbarger. Jon brough 2 fish to the scales that weighed 5.24lbs. Jon had everyones attention at the scales when he brought two weigh bags up claiming he had a huge fish. He did. Unfortunately, it was the wrong species. Seems while flipping Tawakoni's flooded brush Jon hooked into and landed a 19lb. catfish. The big, what looked like a Blue catfish, was released after everyone had a good look.
The 5th tournament of 2008 will be held Saturday June 28th at Cedar Creek.

Ghaffar Wins on Sandlin
The Northeast Texas Region held it’s third tournament of 2008 on Lake Bob Sandlin Saturday April 26th. The 33 angler field found the lake to be significantly different than what was experienced during last years visit. In 2007 the water was 10 feet low. Hameed Ghaffar, a long time member of the Texas B.A.S.S. Federation Nation and Century Bass Club, was able to figure out the Sandlin bite by weighing in 4 fish at 12.52lbs to claim his first win in 2008. Hameed also had the tournaments second place “Big Bass” which weighed in at 5.56lbs.
In second place was Northeast Texas Angler’s Mick Horton. Mick brought 5 bass to the scales that weighed 12.18lbs. Finishing in the third place spot was J.P. Duran. The Bassmasters of East Texas club member weighed in a 5 bass limit at 11.68lbs. Wayne Randall, fishing in his first regional tournament for 2008, brought 5 fish to the scales weighing 11.44lbs. The Denton County Bass Club member finished in the 4th spot. Also fishing with the Denton County Bass Club and rounding out the top 5 was Jose Ramos. Jose brought 3 fish to the scales that weighed 11.26lbs. and included the tournaments first place “Big Bass”. The DCBC President’s lunker weighed in at 5.72lbs.
The fourth tournament on the NETBFN schedule will be held Saturday May 17th at Lake Tawakoni. The tournament head quarters will be announced soon.

2007 Angler of the Year, Brannon Long
Like many others, bass fishing is my passion and I take it very seriously.
Needless to say the A.O.Y title is a very special accomplishment for me.
Without the help of my wife and friends and sponsors, it would have been much more difficult.
I would like to take the time to thank everyone at Century Bass club for the support and the sharing of their fishing knowledge.
It is really a stout club with excellent anglers. The club is worth the drive from Longview to Dallas for meetings.
I would like to thank the federation anglers as well for the same reasons.
I have had the chance to meet some very skilled anglers as well as good people.
The Northeast Federation has also been outstanding this year do to the hard work and efforts of Regional director Philip Webb. " Hats off to ya Dawg"
I give great thanks to my sponsors for all they do help me in my quest.

Northeast TD Wins at RC
Richland Chambers is a great structure lake that is loaded with shad and is known to give up some huge stingers during certain times of the year. On Saturday July 14th the Northeast Federation Nation found out that RC can also be one of the most difficult lakes to locate and catch summer time bass. Of the 33 anglers that entered our tournament only one came to the scales with a 5 fish limit.
Brannon Long, our Tournament Director and Century Bass club member, found that limit and won his first Federation Nation Regional Tournament. Brannon's 5 fished weighed 12.56lbs giving him a 2.87lb margin of victory over 2nd place Robert Hargrove, also with Century Bass Club, who came to the scales with 3 fish weighing 9.69lbs. Robert's catch was anchored by the tournaments 1st place "Big Bass" which weighed 6.12lbs. Century Bass Clubs reigning Angler of the Year, Jon Harshbarger, finished in the 3rd position with 3 fish weighing 8.38lbs. Participating in his first Northeast Regional Tournament of 2007 and finishing in the 4th spot was Plano Bass Anglers Larry Crutchfield. Larry brought in 3 fish that weighed 7.01lbs and rounding out the top 5 was Century Bass Clubs President and the Northeast Federation Nations Youth Director Nick Carroccio. Nick's 2 fish weighed in at 6.95lbs. The second place "Big Bass" of the tournament weighed 5.09lbs. and was caugh by Red Oak Bass Clubs Keith Glasby.

McDowell Claims First Win On Sandlin
The Northeast Texas Federation Nation held its second tournament of the season Saturday April 21st on Lake Bob Sandlin. 41 anglers took off from Barefoot Bay Marina as the sun rose on what would be a special day.
Lee McDowell, a long standing member of the Federation Nation and Red Oak Bass Club, brought in the tournament’s best 5 fish limit weighing 17.30lbs to claim his first win. Lee’s limit was anchored by a 6.26lb largemouth that would also be the 1st place “big bass” of the tournament. When handed the 1st place plaque Lee said “the (prize) money is nice; but, this means more to me.” That’s how special a Federation Nation tournament win can be.
In second place with 5 fish weighing 13.63lbs was Carl Barrett of Lake Cities Anglers. Our Tournament Director and Century Bass Club’s Brannon Long finished 3rd with 5 fish coming in at 13.36lbs. Mick Horton with the Northeast Texas Anglers weighed in 5 fish for 13.05lbs and a solid 4th place finish and rounding out the top 5 with 5 fish weighing 12.70lbs was Dallas Bass Club’s Kenney Moore.
Cecil Tubb with Northeast Texas Anglers caught the tournaments 2nd place “big bass” which weighed 5.45lbs.

Jr.'s Battle Cold and Wind On Sandlin
The Northeast region has never had a Jr. Bassmaster division, but that all changed on April 15th 2007. The season opener was held on Lake Bob Sandlin at Barefoot Bay Marina.
As the sun rose and the fog cleared 8 new Jr. Bassmasters braved the wind and 45 degree air for their chance to take top honors in their age division.
In the 3-6 yr beginners, Bianca Carroccio brought 1.40 lbs to the scales for 1st place. The weather kept the 7-10 yr juniors at home, but we look forward to heavy competition next month. The Advanced 11-14 yr division had 5 entries, with Garrett Morgan taking 1st place an impressive 9.74 lb stringer of fish. 2nd Place went to Chad Petrie with a Hog that topped the scales at 6.95 lbs, and in 3rd place was “DD” Taylor with 1.55 lbs. In our senior 15-18 division Zach Sears locked up 1st place with 7.11 lbs, while Dakota White was second with 4.40 lbs.
Thanks to all our anglers and to the volunteers for making our 1st tournament ever a success.
The next tournament is May 6th 2007 and is hosted by Lake Palestine Resort (formally the Camp Grounds) 902-876-2253, safe light till noon. Registration will begin at 6:30 am. Early registration may be sent to our Director Nick Carroccio at n.carroccio@tx.rr.com . We hope to see you there and tell your friends.

Wind, Rain and Hail Cannot Stop Moore
The opening tournament of the 2007 Northeast Texas Regional Trail was greeted with the fury of Mother Nature and the unfortunate maintenance schedule of a power plant. High winds and extreme thunderstorms rocked a cool Brandy Branch, located just east of Longview, forcing many anglers to take cover during the late morning hours of the tournament.
Dallas Bass Club’s Kenny Moore over came the harsh weather and a field of 34 very good anglers by bringing in an impressive 5 fish limit weighing 14.16 pounds for the tournament win.
Denton County Bass Club's President Scott Tubbs placed 2nd with 5 fish weighing 11.86 pounds.
Long time Northeast Texas Region member and Backwater Bass Club's Michael Allen finished third with 5 fish weighing 11.44 pounds.
Fourth place with 5 fish weighing 11.35 pounds was awarded to Coy Frazier with Century Bass Club and 5th place with 4 fish weighing 10.50 pounds went to Carl Barrett with Lake Cities Anglers.
The 1st “Big Bass” for 2007 was caught by Keith Glasby of Red Oak Bass Club. Keith’s lunker weighed in at 6.36 pounds. Second place “Big Bass” was awarded to Northeast Texas Angler’s Stephen Jones with a 5.28 pound large mouth.

State Tournament Insurance Requirement Explained
Rule 2 requires participants to have proof of boat liability insurance in the amount of $300,000 or more with effective dates during the tournament week. Since Lake Amistad has US waters and Mexican waters, you must have liability insurance that covers you in both. If your current insurance provides liability coverage in the appropriate amount for both US and Mexican waters, no additional insurance will be needed. Otherwise, you will need to obtain a liability insurance policy that covers you in Mexican waters in the minimum amount of $300,000. You will be required to provide proof that your liability insurance is effective in Mexican and US waters to qualify your boat and to use your boat in practice and during the tournament. Remember, the insurance requirements are BASS requirements. Any failure to follow strictly such requirements will cause your disqualification from the tournament and the state team, should you qualify for the state team.

A Message from B.A.S.S.
Dear Federation Member and Concerned Angler,
I would like to personally invite each and every angler and Federation member to a very exciting meeting. A meeting like no other. This workshop titled "Anglers and Biologists Working Together to Make Fishing Better for You" will bring anglers, conservation leaders, fishing industry representatives, and resource managers together to discuss problems facing bass fishing today and in the future. Meet pro angler Chad Brauer and B.A.S.S. Conservation Director Noreen Clough. Conservation has been discussed a lot lately on many bass fishing forums. B.A.S.S., FLW, and the TBF Inc. have all used conservation as a bargaining tool in the debate over the future of the Federation, but what does conservation really mean to the average bass angler? If we are to protect the future of our sport, we must work with our resource managers to tackle the many problems that face the future of our sport. This meeting will open many doors for that to happen. You voice is extremely important, and together we can make a difference. I look forward to meeting you in San Antonio.
