Boy Scout Fishing Merit Badge |

Boy Scout Troop 125 from Dallas, Texas, held a campout over the weekend at the Huffines Ranch, near Quinlan, Texas. Mike Kernan assembled an agenda and oversaw the day’s activities. With the help of his team fishing partner and a couple other anglers, Mike helped 22 scouts earn the fly fishing merit badge, and 17 anglers earn the fishing merit badge. That’s a full day!
Instruction started out with knots, the environment, and the Boy Scout Outdoor Code. Then all the kids cast four different types of reels. Then the action turned to the stock ponds on the ranch. In just three hours, all the scouts caught their requirements of two species of fish for each badge!
The day ended with a nice meal provided by the Huffines for all the parents and instructors.
Mike is sponsored by Nitro Boats, Mercury Outboards, Minn Kota trolling motors, Humminbird electronics, Strike King Lures, Falcon Rods, and Brown’s Boat Repair. Special thanks to Key Puckett at Fishin’ World for helping provide the rods and reels used at this event.
